Dahl, Roald (1916-1990). Revolting Rhymes. London: Jonathan Cape, 1982.
4to. Color illustrations after Quentin Blake. Original color pictorial boards (covers very lightly sunned, publisher's price sticker on lower cover).
Later edition. INSCRIBED BY DAHL AND SIGNED BY THE ILLUSTRATOR WITH TWO SMALL DRAWINGS on the front free endpaper: "To Ona & Oliver, Love, Roald Dahl" and "Quentin Blake, Dec 1982." Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes recasts familiar fairy tales in verse, transforming them into darkly comic parodies marked by violence, wit, and subversive surprise. Stories such as Little Red Riding Hood are stripped of their conventional moral sweetness and given Dahl’s characteristically mischievous treatment, as in the heroine’s memorable shooting of the wolf with a pistol kept in her knickers.
