Lot Note:
This work by Suzanne Horvitz is a mixed-media composition on glass panel, executed in verre églomisé (glass gilding and reverse painting on glass) and incorporating photography, digital transfers, and silkscreen. Designed and made for Sandra Newman, the work has not previously been exhibited.
The composition references the Sirens from Homer’s Odyssey, a recurring motif in Horvitz’s practice through which she explores themes of allure, transformation, and danger. Through layered imagery and wordplay, Horvitz combines text and image to create a reflective, dreamlike field that evokes shifting perception and the space between material and illusion. Other panels from this series have been exhibited at the Noyes Museum in 2025, in Cairo in 2019, and in Yangon in 2016.
