Located on the Hopi Reservation in Northeast Arizona, the historic Keams Canyon Trading Post, established by Thomas Keam in 1875.

There is a handwritten label on the reverse, which is likely in the hand of the artist, which reads: "Freighting Out the Wool- Keans Canyon"- In a rocky canyon, the Keams Canyon Trading Post was a busy wool buying center - Now a govenment center for the Navajo-Hopis.
