lined, on new stretcher; with cracquelure commensurate with age; UV light reveals a general green fluorescence, likely indicating a later applied varnish; UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching, including along upper and lower borders, including a splotch above head and to right corner, and small splotches along bottom edge, along left-facing arm, either side of collar, some small areas of inpainting near mouth, chin, and to nose, arm near chair, and a few minor areas to jacket, background, and left-facing edge; frame is modern, with a few minor areas of loss to gesso / gilding commensurate with age; bottom edge of canvas has a strip of wax to fill gap where it meets canvas, some of the wax has been lost.
