Sold: Sotheby's, Olympia, July 2, 2003, Lot 325
Acquired from the above sale by the present owner
Framed: 46 1/8 x 56 1/4 x 2 1/4 in.
Minor deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is lined; network of craquelures throughout the surface; instances of inpainting in scattered areas, visible under normal viewing conditions, including an approximately 2 x 2 inch crescent-shaped spot above the seated man's head. Under UV light: the aforementioned crescent-shaped spot fluoresces; broad strokes of inpainting scattered along all edges; a medium-sized spot of inpainting in the kneeling woman's lower robe; the seated man's proper right leg appears to be mostly inpainted; additional minor spots of inpainting in scattered areas of the background; the varnish fluoresces inconsistently, either due to selective varnish cleaning or possible inpainting in scattered areas throughout.
