Lot comprised of 20 ambrotypes and tintype portraits of men, women, and children, including the following highlights:
Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a determined looking man, housed under mat stamped by Brady, and inside a half case (some loss to emulsion, small imperfection on plate to left of the subject's face). -- Sixth plate ambrotype of a toddler-aged girl seated beside a table, housed in oval thermoplastic wall frame, 5 1/2 x 4 3/4 in. (some loss to emulsion and discoloration to image). -- Ninth plate ambrotype of a young girl housed in wooden wall frame, 4 3/4 x 4 1/2 in. (tarnish to edges and some surface wear to plate). -- 5 x 4 in. ambrotype portrait of a man and two women posed in a studio setting, uncased (image very clear, some loss to edges of plate). -- Ninth plate tintype of a woman housed under mat, preserver, and cover glass, but uncased (image dark).
Also enclosed are 15 uncased tintypes, approx. 4 x 2 3/4 in. or smaller. Highlighted portraits include: A view of three men seated in a studio playing cards. -- Seated portrait of a man strumming his guitar. -- Studio portrait of three dapper-looking men wearing top hats and smoking. -- Outdoor view of three young men who appear to be posed near a graveyard. One of the men appears to have a small parade flag tucked into his coat. -- Studio portrait of a young boy wearing a suit and cap adorned with patches in the form of eight-pointed stars. Condition of uncased tintypes vary. Most in good to very good condition, with occasional surface wear. Some with vertical or horizontal creases.
