Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is relined and margins trimmed, with the relining canvas visible along the lower edge; a network of craquelures throughout the surface, with several minor instances of lifting paint in the lower left quadrant; a vertical seam extending along the length of the left edge, accompanied by inpainting visible under normal viewing conditions. pinpoint paint droplets scattered through the lower half of the composition; under a highly glossy and reflective varnish. Under UV light: the aforementioned vertical line of inpainting fluoresces, as well as inpainting in areas directly around this line; an approximately 8 x 3 inch area of inpainting in the lower right corner, indicating a repaired tear; a few dots of inpainting in the boy's face; several strokes of inpainting to the cheek and neck of Hagar; inpainting to the background along the edges of her shoulders and left hand; areas of inpainting to the upper portion of the blue drapery she wears; strokes of inpainting in scattered areas along the upper edge and lower left edge; a few instances of minor, small spots of inpainting in scattered areas.
