Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is relined; moderate frame abrasions along all edges; network of craquelures throughout the surface; scattered areas of overcleaning; a few instances of whitish residue in scattered areas, which does not rub off; one pinpoint white paint droplet in the lower center; an approximately 1 inch radius area of inpainting in Abel's torso that is visible under normal viewing conditions. Under UV light: selective varnish cleaning to the two figures and to the right of Cain's extended foot; areas of inpainting scattered throughout the background; inpainting in Cain's hair and along his right ear edge, as well as to the edges of his right bicep and forearm and inpainting to the club he holds; scattered inpainting in the dark area below and to the right of Abel's face, including an approximately 1 inch area of inpainting.
