A Renowned Landscape artist, Edmund Darch Lewis’s captivating’s works defined the 19th century American Art scene. His oeuvre predominantly featured breathtaking vistas of the American countryside, depicting the subtle interplay of light and shadow in order to capture the serene beauty of nature. He played a crucial role in the development and popularization of American landscape painting, contributing to a genre that became integral to American artistic identity. He traveled extensively in pursuit of capturing the natural splendor of the world, seeking inspiration from the diverse scenery. In this Collection of Continental Views we get a glimpse into some of Lewis’s possible international travels. He would often spend considerable time sketching and painting en plein air, capturing the nuanced beauty and unique characteristics of the landscapes he encountered. We see here the iconic landscapes of Egypt, Italy, and Spain. Lewis’s work is featured in many significant collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The National Gallery of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

In overall very good condition. Some light soiling and creases present consistent with light handling to varying degrees on each sheet.
