William C. Craig, born in Dublin, Ireland, was best-known as a watercolor painter. In 1863, he relocated to New York, and continued his career by painting the landscapes of New York State, as well as Kentucky and Ohio. This landscape, depicting a lone fisherman in a boat on a secluded section of a river, with a small house in the distance, offers a more unusual painting medium for Craig, oil on canvas.
