The larger example depicting the HMS Leander (1813-1830), accompanied by a hand-drawn scale plan of the Leander hull, listing the ship stats, signed "T Knight," l.r., and dated,
Octbr 1846," upper center, inscribed verso, "Leander 60 Guns' Frigate/ Built of Pitch Pine 1813"; the smaller model depicting a ship called Mary.
Note
The HMS Leander was ordered by the British Navy from Wigram, Wells & Green in 1813. The Leander was built in response to the need for spar-decked frigates during the War of 1812. With 50 guns, the ship proved formidable during its time in the American arena. The Leander was later used during the Second Barbary War, and was broken up in 1830.

The consignor's colonial style home, Glen Cree, was featured in the magazine Colonial Homes, November-December 1985, and much of the collection was photographed.
