Flaps and sides decorated with geometric lane-stitched beaded banding in blues, red, white and yellow and tin cones with dyed red horsehair fringe, the front decorated with horizontal red quillwork and red feathers.

According to Dr. Zehner's diary, the bags were purchased along with other items on April 6, 1950 from Mrs. Alice Howard: "Two large, quill and feather decorated bags which are the counterpart of the white man's suitcase. They are well made and in fine condition. They were made by old lady Short Bull (Chief Short Bull's wife) who lived in the Black Hills. They were given to Alice by her aunt Mrs. Lizzie Long Bull (wife of Charlie Long Bull) who died in Bull Head about two years ago. Alice has them four or five years."
