Including two rectangular covered vegetable dishes; three oval vegetable dishes, one lacking lid; two smaller oval serving dishes; six varisized serving platters, each of rectangular form with canted corners; seven cups and saucers; one leaf shaped dish; one gravy boat; and numerous varisized plates.
L: 16 1/4 in. (largest, platter)Provenance: Inherited by the present owner from her grandfather, Joseph Scattergood (1870-1949), a birthright Quaker and physician in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Per family tradition, the collection was amassed by his grandfather and namesake, Joseph Scattergood (1808-1877). Joseph and his second wife Mary née Lesher lived in Philadelphia, near the port on the Delaware River. Joseph was the founder of the Carter and Scattergood Chemical Company of Philadelphia. The service thence descended in the family.
