Blue wool twill canton with thirteen, five-pointed appliqued cotton muslin stars arranged in a unique pattern, wool bunting stripes, the hoist retains sections of hemp cord and bears stamp, "Mastai Collection No. 119," mounted and framed.

Accompanied by a textile analysis report dated Febrary 20, 2003 and a conservation report dated January, 2009 which states that "the sewing thread found in the flag is consistent with 18th century sewing practice and flag construction."
This rare Naval color is of the size and style used on gun boats serving the Great Lakes and rivers at the turn of the 19th century. The condition indicates heavy use use from service as a National color. It may be the oldest extant"Grand Luminary" or Great Star flag
