Descended in the Wister family to the present owners. Charles Jones Wister named the family home Grumblethorpe after a humorous book, Thinks I to Myself. He was known for his broad scientific knowledge and kept a weather diary for decades. The silhouette hung in the Wister family ancestral home, Grumblethorpe, in Germantown, Philadelphia, now a National Historic Landmark.
