8 1/2 in. x 6 1/2 in. (sight)Jones was a Philadelphia merchant and last provincial Treasurer of Pennsylvania before the Revolution. He was the grandfather of Sarah (Sally) Wister. See lot 189.
Provenance: Estate of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Wister, Oldwick, New Jersey.
Descended in the Wister family to the present owners. The silhouette hung in the Wister family ancestral home, Grumblethorpe, in Germantown, Philadelphia, now a National Historic Landmark.
