Property From a David Collins-Designed New York Residence to be Presented At Hindman
NEW YORK – Hindman announces a collection of property from a David Collins-designed residence in New York will be presented this month. Collins, an accomplished Irish architect and interior designer whose client roster includes brands such as Alexander McQueen, Jimmy Choo, and Madonna and whose accolades include being featured on the AD100 list, designed this Upper East Side apartment. The firm will offer furniture and art from the apartment, located at 322 East 57th Street, in its June 14th The Collected Home auction and November 14th Modern Design auction.
Born in Dublin, Collins established his interior design firm in London in 1985. The Studio has a strong reputation for impeccably designed hospitality, residential, and retail destinations around the world – such as The Connaught Bar and Harrods in London, Blue Bar at The Berkeley, and La Tante Claire in Chelsea. The Studio has recently created interiors for the Nobu Hotel in London's Portman Square, Tom Kerridge's restaurant at Corinthia London, and Scarpetta in Doha.
Collins was inspired by Art Deco and French mid-century design, which are exhibited in the present collection. The Macassar ebony chair back with its stepped outline mirrors the great architectural masterpiece of the New York skyline, the Empire State Building, and likely dates to a similar period in the 1930s. He was also passionate about contemporary photography and artwork, reflected in a suite of works by Mary Pinto from her series of cyanotype photograms – silhouetted botanicals – which worked beautifully in the blue study alongside the desk in the manner of Jean Royère. Highlights of the auction also include a Karl Springer console table, a pair of mahogany Klismos chairs, and custom silk sofas.

This home looked to redefine timeless glamor for New York living.”
Gemma Sudlow, Hindman Managing Director of the New York Region commented: “It’s a privilege for Hindman to present works from an interior designed by David Collins who founded one of the most influential interior design studios of our era. His work and legacy are synonymous with understated luxury and refinement.
