Recognized industry leader joins America’s premier auction house to accelerate a new era of innovation and global expansion.
Freeman’s announces Muys Snijders, an internationally-recognized leader in auction, luxury and art advisory sectors, has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
Her appointment caps a strong spring season for Freeman’s, marked by strong auction results for private and estate collections, as well as exceptional prices for individual artworks, watches, jewelry, antiquities, and rare books and manuscripts. Freeman’s Chairman Jay F. Krehbiel welcomed Ms. Snijders arrival as a key element of Freeman’s strategic growth plan, which prioritizes global collector engagement, continuing investment in talent and technology, an expansion of the company’s leadership position in the rising ‘middle market’ auction sector.
“Muys represents the next generation of global art market leadership,” said Mr. Krehbiel. “She brings a unique combination of auction expertise and entrepreneurial vision to the role, as well as a nuanced understanding of how collectors engage with and care for their collections. Her professional experience within the global art world is comprehensive and holistic, including auction and private sales, fine art advisory, risk management, appraisals, and strategic business development. As a leader, Muys brings energy, creativity, and a truly global mindset that aligns perfectly with where Freeman’s is headed next.”
With over 25 years of international leadership experience, Ms. Snijders has been named one of the Top 50 Women Leaders of New York, and one of The 10 Most Influential Women Changing the Face of Business. In 2025, she was selected for the Observer’s Power Index, which highlightsthe art market’s most influential people. She is a sought-after subject matter expert on collecting, market trends, and the evolving global art ecosystem, and speaks multiple languages, having lived and worked across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Prior to joining Freeman’s, Ms. Snijders served as Senior Vice President and Head of Art Services at AIG Private Client Group (now Private Client Select), where she advised collectors and institutions on the management, insurance, protection, and valuation of significant art and collectibles portfolios. Prior to AIG, she led global client strategy and oversaw auction and private sales at Christie’s, and at Bonham’s, where she specialized in Post-War & Contemporary Art.
Ms. Snijders holds master’s degrees in Art History and Classical Archaeology from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and Arts Management and Art Market Appraisal in the U.K. She also completed the Executive Leadership Program for China through Harvard Business School, Tsinghua University, and CEIBS. Ms. Snijders noted, “The art world is evolving rapidly, and collectors are looking for deeper relationships, greater transparency, and more meaningful experiences. Freeman’s has an extraordinary historic legacy built on expertise and trust, combined with a modern commitment to innovation. I am energized by the tremendous opportunity to build something bold, global, and future-facing as part of the Freeman’s team — particularly for collectors who value expertise, accessibility, and long-term relationships over scale alone.”
