Jewelry for Every Collector: Hindman to Present Dazzling Designs by Harry Winston, Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Evelyn Clothier and More
CHICAGO – A timeless selection of sophisticated jewelry will highlight Hindman’s September 13th Important Jewelry auction, offering designs for every level of collector. A Harry Winston Diamond Ring is the top lot (lot 218; estimate: $225,000-325,000), featuring a 7.40 carat pear shaped diamond. The sale has pieces made in pre-Victorian times to present day, including jewelry by top designers including Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Jean Mahie, Evelyn Clothier and Sabbadini.
Diamonds for All Collectors

Lot 41 & 42 | Cartier Diamond Ring and Brooch, Estimates: $80,000-$120,000 & $8,000-$12,000
Given that Harry Winston was called “The King of Diamonds,” it might not come as a surprise that a diamond ring from the designer, featuring a Type IIa D color pear shaped diamond, is the most highly anticipated lot. Winston’s jewelry is known internationally for its exceptionally high quality. He was the last owner of The Hope Diamond, which he famously donated to the Smithsonian, in Washington, D.C.
Jewelry by renowned design house Cartier will also be offered. Examples that capture the elegance the brand has become famous for include a diamond ring, with a 4.20 pear shaped diamond (lot 41; estimate: $80,000-120,000). For someone looking to add a piece at a slightly more approachable price to their jewelry box, a Cartier Diamond Brooch (lot 42; estimate: $8,000-12,000) is another excellent option.
Other diamond rings that are expected to see high demand are a Yellow Gold and Diamond Ring (lot 196; estimate: $70,000 – $90,000) and a ring containing a 4.02 carat round brilliant cut diamond (lot 248; estimate: $50,000-70,000). Additional standout lots include a spectacular pair of Diamond Stud Earclips (lot 215; estimate: $70,000-$100,000).
Brooches from Award Winning Jewelry Designer Evelyn Clothier

Lot 79 | Evelyn Clothier, Agate and Diamond Dragonfly Brooch. Estimate: $12,000 – $18,000
Hindman is pleased to be presenting a colorful selection of brooches from the Personal Collection of Evelyn Clothier. Known for her Art Nouveau inspired designs, Evelyn Clothier is an award-winning jewelry designer whose pieces could be seen for years at Bergdorf Goodman’s. Using vibrant gemstones, iridescent enameling and the plique-a-jour technique, she creates whimsical creatures and delicate flowers represented in her ‘Treasures from the Garden’ collection. Among the selection of four brooches that will be offered are an Agate and Diamond Dragonfly Brooch (lot 79; estimate: $12,000- $18,000) and a Diamond and Sapphire Dragonfly Brooch (lot 77; estimate: $6,000 $8,000).
“I admire and collect Japanese Cloisonné, made by melting ground colored glass into small cells surrounded by wire to create incredible shaded flowers and fauna,” shared Evelyn Clothier regarding how she developed the collection. “Some of it has no backing so the light will show through, creating plique-a-jour. Influenced by the magical Art Nouveau design, I began to make jewelry of butterflies, grasshoppers and peacocks using 18 karat gold and platinum with pearls, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires that would imitate the reality of ‘treasures from my garden.’”
