Freeman’s Welcomes Matthew Stavro as Prints & Multiples Senior Specialist
Freeman’s, one of the nation’s leading auction houses, is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Stavro as Senior Specialist for Prints & Multiples. With nearly 15 years of experience in the art world, Stavro brings a deep knowledge of modern and contemporary prints and a passion for connecting collectors with exceptional works of art.
Most recently, Stavro served in the Prints and Multiples department at Bonhams, where he was responsible for business development, valuations and appraisals, and advising clients on building and refining their collections. His expertiseand market insight have helped set auction records for artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, and Pablo Picasso.
Prior to his time at Bonhams, Stavro worked with leading galleries in New York, where he developed forward-thinking strategies that responded to evolving market trends and represented prominent photographers, estates, and contemporary artists. Originally from Montreal, Canada, Stavro holds a BCom from the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, a Certificate in Art & Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, and an MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York. “Prints have always captivated me for their balance between accessibility and artistry; they allow collectors to engage with the work of great masters whose original paintings or sculptures might otherwise be out of reach. With the market for some original works reaching unprecedented heights, it's deeply rewarding to offer prints and multiples that embody the same sophistication, intention, and beauty at a more approachable level. Joining Freeman’s is an exciting opportunity to share that knowledge and passion through storytelling and scholarship while guiding clients in both selling and acquiring exceptional works,” said Stavro.
Monica Brown, Managing Director of Fine Art, Head of Prints & Multiples mentioned “We are thrilled to have Matthew joining our team. This hire exemplifies our dedication to deepening our expertise across all categories of Fine Art and further establishes our commitment to Prints & Multiples, a category of exponential growth for our firm over the past 10 years.”
In his new role at Freeman’s, Stavro will focus on expanding the firm’s Prints & Multiples category, deepening client relationships, and strengthening the department’s reputation for expertise, scholarship, and exceptional service. His appointment underscores Freeman’s ongoing commitment to excellence and to offering clients a comprehensive understanding of today’s dynamic art market.
