Freeman’s | Hindman Presents the Couture Collection of Maureen Dwyer Smith

Freeman’s | Hindman is honored to present The Couture Collection of Maureen Dwyer Smith, a compelling offering of garments and accessories from the wardrobe of one of Chicago’s most esteemed civic leaders and philanthropists. Select pieces from Smith’s collection will be available in the Fall Fashion auction, closing September 12, followed by additional highlights in the Holiday Lux and The Holiday Edit sales later this year.

A champion of the arts and beloved figure in Chicago’s philanthropic community, Maureen Dwyer Smith cultivated a wardrobe that exemplified timeless elegance and a discerning eye for design. The collection includes couture by Ralph Rucci, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, and Emilio Pucci, alongside luxury handbags from Chanel, Judith Leiber, and Hermès—notably a Hermès Kelly 32 in Noir Box Leather (Lot 9) (Estimate: $4,000–6,000), available in the September 12 auction.

Lot 9 | Hermès, Kelly 32 in Noir Box Leather | Estimate: $4,000–6,000

Smith’s fashion sensibility was inseparable from her civic and cultural leadership. She served as Chair of the Board of the Joffrey Ballet, where she also founded its

Women’s Board, helping to secure a stable future for the world-renowned dance company. Her leadership extended to the Field Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago Public Library Foundation, and After School Matters, among many others.

Lot 51 | Emilio Pucci, Fuchsia Embellished Kaftan – Estimate: $400–600

Born in New York City and educated in art and philosophy, Smith began her career in publishing before moving to Chicago and transitioning to retail consulting. Her intellectual curiosity and artistic background informed both her public service and personal style.

Standout pieces in the Fall Fashion auction include:

· Lot 9 | Hermès, Kelly 32 in Noir Box Leather | Estimate: $4,000–6,000

· Lot 51 | Emilio Pucci, Fuchsia Embellished Kaftan – Estimate: $400–600
