Women's Work

Live Auction | Philadelphia | March 25
Consignment Deadline: February 25

Freeman’s is proud to present Women’s Work, a landmark Spring 2026 live auction in Philadelphia dedicated exclusively to the creative achievements of women artists across art, craft, design, fashion, and literature. Taking place on March 25, during Women’s History Month, the sale celebrates the lasting cultural impact and artistic innovation of women working across disciplines and generations.

As the global art market increasingly recognizes the importance of women artists—reflected in rising auction records and major museum retrospectives—Women’s Work offers collectors and consignors a timely opportunity to engage with this vital and growing field. The auction highlights both historically significant figures and artists whose markets continue to gain momentum, reinforcing Freeman’s longstanding commitment to advancing women’s art within the middle and upper markets.

Since our earliest days, Freeman’s have been leaders in championing women artists, from regional luminaries such as Fern Coppedge and Gertrude Abercrombie to internationally recognized figures including Helen Frankenthaler, Jane Piper, and Sally Michel Avery. The firms have also helped establish markets for artists and designers such as Toshiko Takaezu, Mira Nakashima, and Sylvia Shaw Judson, whose celebrated Bird Girl sculpture achieved $390,600 at auction.

Freeman’s is now accepting consignments for Women’s Work and welcomes exceptional examples of painting, sculpture, prints, ceramics, design, couture, jewelry, rare books, and manuscripts by women creators. The sale will feature works ranging from fine art to decorative arts and design, including couture by Chanel, furniture by Mira Nakashima, and first editions and manuscripts by literary icons such as Virginia Woolf and Jane Austen.

Preview exhibitions will be held in Philadelphia and New York, offering collectors multiple opportunities to experience the works firsthand. With its broad scope and scholarly approach, Women’s Work honors the vision, legacy, and continued relevance of women artists while offering collectors a distinctive opportunity to acquire important works.

A Word from Head of Sale

“Women’s History Month seems like the perfect time to honor the creative contributions of women past and present. We have a long history of championing women artists and I am looking forward to continuing to support this effort by creating a sale that features work by some of my favorites like Sally Michel Avery, Mira Nakashima, Jane Piper and Niki de Saint Phalle.” - Adrianne Wolkenberg
