A Large Burlwood and Huanghuali Scroll Pot
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY

明 根雕大筆海
the pot carved utilizing the natural contours of the burlwood trunk, the surface showing a dense network of irregular knots and rugged swirls, mounted at the rim with an undulating huanghuali lip, the whole risen above a similarly worked stand.  
Height 16 x length 14 1/2 in., 41 x 37 cm.
