A Chicken Bone Jade 'Lotus' Vase
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
明 雞骨白玉雕仙人祝壽瓶
carved from stone of pale oatmeal tone charged with ripples of grey and ruddy striations to compressed bell-form with a slightly flaring mouth. The ovoid foot carved to the exterior with lobes of pointed lotus spears scaling the body, worked over at opposing long sides with shou characters in en suite roundels, above which the lobed body continues in lower relief beneath figures of immortals, terminating in a foliated mouth rim, and incised at the lip with a keyfet band.
