Lot Description

John Post, Company H, 6th Michigan Cavalry Regiment (George A. Custer's famed cavalry brigade). ID disc and stenciled sewing kit "housewife."


1 1/8 in. brass identification disc (condition consistent with heavy use, retaining some original gilt finish). Obverse features relief struck portrait of President Abraham Lincoln surrounded by legend "War of 1861." Reverse stamped with military and hometown information, predating Post's promotion on 30 June 1863. 

[With:] 4 7/8 x 10 in. housewife constructed of an attractive array of different materials and fabrics including a wide tie, stenciled “John Post. / Co. H 6th Mich. Cav.” Accompanied by Post’s clipped newspaper obituary.
