14 1/2 in. ht., 16 3/8 in. dia. painted maple snare drum (original brass snare attachment and snares present, original drumheads present, red hoop and rims retouched, rope and tighteners replaced ca 1880s). An eagle with a red, white, and blue shield on a blue field is found on one side. On the opposite side is a round brass tack design unique to the manufacturer. The original full label pasted on the inside reads, “C.M. Zimmerman’s /  Manufactory / 238 North Second St. / Phila. Pa. / Patent Drum." Attached to the drum is the original white webbed drum sling, 18 in. ln., fastened to a brown leather heart.

[With:] Original pair of maple drumsticks housed in a regulation brass drumstick carriage stamped “C.L. Karrington / Apo. 4th” (attachment hooks are present).

Provenance: Originally purchased at auction in 1964 at the site of the McPherson GAR Post located at the McKinley Memorial in Niles, Ohio.
