Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 2 portraits by prominent New Orleans photographers, including Francois Moissenet and E. Jacobs, comprising:
MOISSENET, Francois, photographer. Sixth plate daguerreotype of subject possibly identified as Sheriff Daniel of West Feliciana Parish. New Orleans, LA: n.d. (Surface abrasions, occasional spotting.) Housed in half pressed paper case (somewhat discolored, with mismatched half case). Photographer's "F. Moissenet" stamp on brass mat.
A pre-war image of a subject that reportedly fought as an officer for the Confederacy during the war.
[With:] JACOBS, E., photographer. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. portrait of a lovely woman seated beside a bouquet of flowers, housed under mat in wood frame, 11 3/4 x 13 3/4 in. (chipping to frame, unexamined outside frame). With E. Jacob's partial label on back of frame, which reads in part, "Jaco[bs] / Daguerreotyp[e] / Saloon / 93 Camp St. / Ne[w] [Or]leans." The "93 Camp St" address is also scratched into the frame backing.
