FIRST EDITION of this narrative history of San Francisco compiled from contemporary newspapers and accounts of pioneer citizens. The work not only gives an extensive history of San Francisco but also "supplies much information on mining and its impact on this instant city" (Kurutz, The California Gold Rush, p. 594).
