Lot Description

[NEW MEXICO]. A group of 3 photographs of ancient cliff dwellings and early buildings in New Mexico, incl. images by Bennett and Brown, Jackson, and Kaadt. Ca 1880s-1890s. 


JACKSON, William Henry, photographer. Caves Of The Cliff Dwellers Near Espino. Denver, CO: W.H. Jackson, ca 1885. 7 x 4 1/4 in. albumen boudoir photograph on cardstock mount. (Some soiling, mount toned.) Titled and numbered 2638 in negative. Photographer's imprint to mount verso. Green ink stamp to verso: .“S. A. Taft, Druggist, Silverton, Colo.” Outdoor image showing the viga holes and cavates in Frijoles Canyon in what is now Bandelier National Monument (Espino is probably Española, NM). Mautz pg. 304.       

[With:] BENNETT, George C. and Brown, W. H. Santa Fe And Vicinity. Santa Guadalupe Church from River, 250 years old. Satna Fe, NM: Bennett & Brown, ca 1880.  5 7/8 x 4 in. albumen stereograph on yellow mount. (Occasional spotting.) Series title, image title, and photographer's imprint printed to mount recto. Printed history of the City of Santa Fe on the verso. No. 37. Mautz pg. 325. 

[Also with:] [KAADT, Christian G.] Oldest House in the United States, Santa Fe N.M. [New Mexico]: ca 1899. 7 1/8 x 4 1/2 in boudoir cabinet card on cardstock mount. Titled in negative. Pencil inscription to verso reading: "Older than the church building before the Spanish Conquest." An outdoor image showing the two-story building, a woman with baskets of goods balanced on her head standing on what is now East De Vargas Street. Mautz pg. 332.
