Lot Description

[DAKOTA] -- [WOUNDED KNEE]. A group of 6 photographs incl. Sioux subjects by Frank Bennett Fiske and scenes at Wounded Knee Battlefield. 


FISKE, Frank Bennett, photographer. White Bull. Sioux Chief. N.d. 7 x 5 in. silver gelatin contact print of Chief White bull in full regalia with eagle feather staff (light edge wear). -- Sioux at Trading Post. N.d. 5 x 7 in. silver gelatin photograph of a group of traditionally dressed Sioux in a circle surrounded by observing crowd with buggies, wagons, horses and an American flag. Trading Post has a large sign “Mazopiye Tanka" (minimal edge wear). Penciled credit to Fiske and caption on verso.

[With:] O'NEILL PHOTO COMPANY, photographer. 2 real photo postcards, each with title in the negative: "Chief Iron White Man, Wounded Knee, SD," and "Soldier's Camped at Wounded Knee Battlefield" (light corner and edge wear to each RPPC).  

[Also with:] Portrait of Native American man in headdress. N.d. 7 x 5 in. black and white photograph misidentified as Standing Bear on the verso. -- Silver Tip. N.d. Tourist real photo postcard showing an older man in leather jacket and beaded vest. Deadwood, SD.
