Lot Description

[HOLLYWOOD]. An archive of original negatives, proofs, and photographs of Jerry Lewis. [Ca 1934-1971]. 


The archive dates from 1934-1971. There are many original negatives, color proofs used for promotion, and in addition some vintage photos. The 35 mm b & w strips are contact prints (32 frames). The class picture is original, with "June 19343 Union" above the door. These came from the Jerry Lewis Camera Exchange in Hollywood which opened in 1950. 

Over 130 negatives taken over several decades plus a few prints. Included in the lot are: 8 x 10 photo of Jerry with Bob Hope; 4-1/2 x 5-1/4 print of Lewis with Jo Anne Worley; Lewis at what appears to be an award ceremony with Dick Martin and Phyllis Diller (?); 7 Kodacolor prints of New York City (yellowed with age), dated 1946 on envelope. The negatives include: 18 - 4 x 5 in.; 8 - 2 x 3 in.; strip with six frames;19 - 2-1/4 x 2-1/4; strips of 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 with 50 frames. These include subjects such as the Cameo theatre with Lewis' first film on the marquee; wedding photos (with Patti); Cinderfella; Lewis made up as a clown. Other items include: program for "Permanent Waves," a Jerry Lewis Production. a name tag for the 1969 Jerry Lewis Telethon (for Marshall Katz); two Jerry Lewis Productions business cards; program for opening night at the Jerry Lewis theatre, Sept. 21, 1963.
