Lot Description
[MISCELLANEOUS PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTS] Lot of 19, including early automobiles, 19th century college catalog, map of Chicago dated Oct. 11, 1871, and more.
Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio Catalog 1887. Approx. 4.5 x 6 in., 20pp. Co-ed university. Under the women’s residence hall: “In this building young ladies reside with teachers in intimate and home-like relations. They enjoy all of the advantages of all Departments of the university, and at the same time receive all of the care relating to health, habits, and general culture that could be desired.
In this delightful college home are to be found one hundred and forty young ladies gathered from the best homes in Ohio and other States In morals, in scholarship, and in all the qualities of true womanhood, they are not excelled….” (center vertical fold)
Pair of celluloid buttons, each with a single-story building and a ribbon with: “Wesler School Reunion.” The slightly larger oval has a manuscript arrow and note: “Burned in 1885.”
Cabinet card with photo of a couple sitting in an early automobile. Manuscript note in lower margin “Hupmobile 1912.” Pioneering company, one of the first to use all-steel bodies on their vehicles.
Boudoir photo of later middle-aged man with seven women. One has an asterisk below her, presumably related to a previous owner. (Card is very lightweight, chipping and stained.)
Murphy, Ralph W. Playtime A.B.C. New York: McLoughlin Bros., 1900. 7 x 8.5 in. Glazed linen covers and pages, unnumbered. Eight leaves. On front is manuscript note: “Ralph W. Murphy’s first book about 1902.”
First day issue postcard (14 ¢), Philadelphia, May 25, 1987. “Constitutional Convention, 1787.” Group of men stand in front of Independence Hall, identified as George Mason, Gouveneur Morris, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and Charles C. Pinkney.
Group of 4 stamps, each with July 4, 1776 below. Together they make up the famous scene of John Trumbull’s 1819 painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Plus a 13¢ stamp with a flag with 13 stars in a circle above Independence Hall and a purple 3¢ stamp with “Constitution Sesqui-Centennial” at the top.
Broadside “Antioch College Basket Ball Tournament” on heavy cardstock. 11 x 18.5 in. Other than information about the tournament, most of the rest of the page is advertising.
