Wake Up!
At a meeting of a number of the citizens of Brattleboro holden at the Inn of col. Chase on Thursday evening June 23 - Voted, That it be recommended to the citizens of this town opposed to the political doctrines of the Jackson-van Buren Party, to meet at the Town Hall on MONDAY next, 27th inst. at 2 o'clock, P.M. to take measures for calling a County Convention for the nomination of a Ticket for Senators, Representatives to Congress &c. at the ensuing election.
Resolved, That success is certain for such a ticket in this county, if proper measures are taken by its friends to act in concert.
John R. Blake, Moderator
John C. Holbrook, Secretary.
Brattleboro, June 23, 1836"
Because three other Whigs ran in 1836, Van Buren was able to win the election. Some of those who ran were trying to force a decision in the House of Reps.
