Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. Officer’s McClellan Saddle. 1859.


2 6/8 in. deep wooden stirrups with leather covers, large black leather side skirts. Pommel and cantle are covered in leather, front and rear portions of seat are in rawhide.  Seat edged trimmed in brass. Pre-1863 girth D-rings are without the flanges. Shield stamped “12 IN” seat.  Saddle is missing one staple and one ring. Complete with 1859 leather girth and crupper. Number 54 stamped on one side skirt and a small brass number 5 on the pommel (4 likely missing). Overall condition generally good.
