VERGILIUS MARO, Publius. The Aeneid of Virgil. A Verse Translation by Allen Mandelbaum. Berkeley, CA: University of California Press, 1981, 8vo, illustrated by Moser, original cloth, dust jacket. FIRST EDITION. Signed by Moser on title-page.

“The Aeneid drawings, which were some of the best I had ever done, became the prototypes for the Commedia drawings. Through them I worked out the materials and techniques I would use for the Inferno drawings. And as we went along I began to understand Mandelbaum, what he said and what he envisioned. My intimidation was wearing off.”
