Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY - PORTRAITURE]. A Daguerreian wall frame containing 6 quarter plate tintypes, with additional frames and mats, including:


6 uncredited quarter plate ambrotypes of members of the Spencer family, most identified by pencil inscriptions on verso. Framed to 15 1/2 x 14 in. Condition varies, with heavy deterioration including large crack in glass to bottom right portrait; all unexamined out of the frame.

[With:] Daguerreian wall frame with 9 spaces for sixth plate portraits, 16 1/8 x 14 1/2 in. -- Daguerreian wall frame with 4 spaces for ninth plate portraits, 8 5/8 x 9 1/2 in., containing one uncredited ninth plate daguerreotype portrait of a man. -- And 6 other frames, including 2 ornate wooden frames for CDV-sized portraits. -- Together, 8 items. Condition generally fair, glass not present in most.

[Also with:] Brass mat with 5 oval openings, each 1 1/4 x 1 5/8 in., total mat size 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 in. (heavy oxidation spots throughout).
