In 1916, over 7,000 soldiers mustered at Camp Willis were deployed to the Mexican border. In 1917, the Ohio National Guard was recruited to wartime strength and was sent to Camp Sheridan, AL to form the 37th "Buckeye" Division which would see action on the battlefields of France and Belgium during the Meuse-Argonne campaign.

Includes a single Black soldier in an otherwise all-White group indicating the image was taken post-desegregation of the US Military in 1948.
