Notable is a letter from Private Samuel W. Armington. HDS indicates Armington enlisted on 1/3/1862 at Worcester, MA as a private and mustered into Co. D MA 15th Infantry. He was listed as a POW 11/27/1863 at Mine Run, VA and released 12/14/1864. The letter offered here was written from "Camp Sumter / Andersonville Ga" on 18 July 1864, approximately 7 months post-capture, and is addressed to his parents. It reads: "I am still a prisoner here my health remains pretty good. I try to keep up good courage & shall get out sometime. The 15th Regt is all here now the remnant of them was captured last month so I have plenty of company give my best wishes to all at home. From Your Son / Sam Armington / Prisoner of War."
