[With:] Ohio Penitentiary News. Vol. III, No. 22. Columbus, OH: 26 September 1896. 4pp. folio. The last page appears to be devoted to the Chapel Department. Other news includes items such as London police finding a “nest” of bombs – “dynamite eggs,” intended to blow the Queen of England (would have been Victoria at the time) to the moon (from Scotland) (p.2). -- 2 1/4 x 5 1/2 in. printed card for the Ohio Penitentiary, compliments of Ward Bros, Steamship & Tourist Ticket Agents. -- White Plains Record: The True Story of the sensational Peaches-Daddy Browning Divorce Trial as Told from the Witness Stand. [Ca 1927]. 14pp. “It teaches a lesson. Mercenary marriages end in misery.” Married at the age of 15 (with her parents’ permission) to Edward Browning, age 51, merely six months later Frances Heenan Browning attempted to have the union annulled claiming cruelty and bizarre behavior on the part of her husband. It was a case that entered popular culture of the day, earning references in various songs and other aspects of culture. It has been used in journalism texts as an example of the excesses of tabloid news of the day. -- Notebook, top opening. Front with “Charleston Police Department” in gilt, Charleston, WV. Inside front cover “R.C. West.” Pages with “Additional Details of Offence, Witnesses, etc.” at top. All blank.
