[STAGECOACHES - CALIFORNIA]. A group of photographs related to Captain Banning, his overland stagecoach line, and Los Angeles, with images by C.C. Pierce, comprising:
Outdoor image of a stagecoach with a team of 6 horses. [Los Angeles]: N.p., n.d. 13 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. photograph mounted to cardstock. Provenance: Captain William Banning, to Benjamin Powers (note to verso). Ink inscription to verso, dated 1924: "Given to me by Capt. William Banning of Catalina Island, etc." -- PIERCE, C.C., photographer. Capt. Banning driving their First stage around the Island. Los Angeles: C.C. Pierce, [1887]. 8 3/8 x 6 3/8 early 20th-century reprint. -- Album with 10 photographs of stagecoaches and diagrams/drawings of coaches. Los Angeles: Keystone Photo Service, 1925. Album 11 1/4 x 8 1/4 in.; each image 9 7/8 x 7 1/2 in. (all but 2 mounted to linen). Publisher's stamp to page versos, ink inscribed titles identifying models and manufacturers. -- And 7 other photographs.
The son of Los Angeles pioneers, William Banning (1858-1946) operated ferry and stagecoach lines on Santa Catalina Island in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
