A map created to encourage western settlement in South Dakota. A caption notes that "Great opportunities for men and money in farming, stock-raising, mining, manufacturing, and all commercial pursuits. Chamberlain is the Gate-way to the Lands Opened for Homestead Settlement by Treaty of 1889." On the map, Chamberlian is highlighted with a large star with the surrounding territory "Opened for Settlement by Treaty of 1889" marked in red. Several railway lines, reservations, and coal fields are marked prominently.
