Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS] -- [WESTERN AMERICANA]. A group of 11 photographs with Native American, farming, and ranching subject matter. Early 20th century.
10 silver gelatin photographs, 9 3/4 x 4 in. or smaller, on cardstock mounts with typed captions affixed below (possible water damage to some prints, which are brittle, some chipping to edges and corners of prints, toning, soiling; significant chipping and wear to mounts, edge and corner loss). Captions include: "Indian Camp near Gordon, Nebraska"; "Carpenter & Carson's Ranch 18 miles N.E. of Gordon, Neb."; "Threshing in N.W. Nebraska"; "Stacking hay in N.W. Neb."; "A Group of Flathead Indians 1907"; "On the Flathead Reservation in 1907"; "A Ute Indian who is said to have accidentally killed his mother when a young man cleaning a gun, and to pay pennance he lay out naked - Uinta Reservation"; "Coeur De Lane Indians Threshing"; "A part of the Pablo herd of Buffalo on the Flathead Reserve"; view of possible "ancient Indian carvings on White Rivercliffs." Although uncredited, consignor's note suggests the photographs were taken by Miller, Gordon, NE, but this cannot be confirmed.
