Lot Description

[GENERAL AMERICANA]. A group of 16 items, highlighted by children's books and ephemera, comprising:


Cast iron antique horse-drawn fire engine, two parts (horses on one part, fireman and pump on the other part). Original paint.  Overall approx. 10 in. long. Very good condition. Paint intact.

TWA Collector’s Series Playing Cards, “Plastic Coated, Bridge Size,” Card backs sport a Ford Trimotor, 1929 plane. Deck is complete, including 2 jokers. In original box.

Vignette Authors” double card deck. E.G. Selchow & Co., New York. Ca 1874-1890. Missing card 6D. (Present 1 – 18 A, 1 – 18 B, 1 – 18 C, 1 – 5, 7 – 18 D). In original box. This one has a bit of wear and fading. It appears to have been played with rather extensively.

Chart of decimal equivalents of fractions from 1/64 to 63/64. 7.5 x 10.5 in. (sight), framed to 10 x 13 in.

Folder (9.5 x 12 in.) containing “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” game.

Miniature book “Life and Peace.” 2 x 3 in. with a month of Bible quotes.

Juvenile Casket with Engravings. Worcester: J. Grout, Jr., n.d. 3.5 x 4.25 in., 24 pp.  Front wrap missing, rear wrap present. Has been hand-stitched at some point in the past.

Veale, E. Funny Foxes. Illustrated by Palmer Cox (author of The Brownies). London: Hubbard Publ. Co., 1897. 4.5 x 6 in., printed color wraps, 12pp., color illustr. Rear wrap with ads for Frank Millers Crown Shoe Dressing.

Cowper, William. The Diverting History of John Gilpin, ca 1782. Nine die-cut pages that sequentially tell “J. Gilpin, Linen Draper’s” story. One of these pages was chosen for the back of the Caldecott medal in 1878. 

Tom Thumb. New York: McLoughlin Brothers, Publ., n.d. (ca 1868). 8vo, paperback, 8 leaves including self-wrapper. Cinderella Series. Date based on McLoughlin’s address (30 Beekman St., 1864-1870). Generally good, with some staining of rear cover.

Midland Notes, Nos. 11 and 12. Catalogs of School Books, Children’s Books, etc., Midland Rare Book Company, Mansfield, Ohio. No. 11, 21 offset pages, printed on one side. No. 12, 20 leaves, printed on one side.

Keeley, J. Charlie Chaplin: Up in the Air. Chicago: M.A. Donohue & Co., 1917. Obl. folio (approx. 10 x 17 in.). Each page with two Charlie Chaplin cartoon strips.

Play Merry-Go-Round with 4 Merry-go-round “indestructible” panoramas.” Unassembled and appears to be complete.
