Lot Description
[EXONUMIA]. A group of commemorative items, comprising:
Silver medal, 1.5 in. diam. with “Reverence for Life / Dr. Albert Schweitzer” with Schweitzer’s profile on recto; “1875 / In Honor / of his Dedication / to Mankind / 1975” on verso.
Bronze plaque, 2 1/4 x 3 1/8 in. On recto: “L. Clark Seelye / D.D. L.L.D. / First President / of Smith College / Erected in his Honor / By the Class / of MCMIV [1904] / at its Decinnal / Reunion / June / MCMXIV.” Verso is blank. In its original leather box with velvet and satin lining.
Bronze medal, designed aby Gutzon Borglum, 3 in. diam. Recto with extended version of Mt. Rushmore, “Adult Regional Award, Georgian American” and “A.L. Crabb.” Verso with profile of FDR and “Committee of Award of the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial Inscription. President Franklin D. Roosevelt Chairman. United States Senators” (followed by a list of 16 names, not all of them senators). In its original velvet and watered silk-lined box, but one side has broken away. This is a rather heavy medal for its size.
