Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY - CASES AND FRAMES]. A group of 8 cast iron wall frames, including:
Three ninth plate cast iron frames. N.p., n.d. Approximately 6 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. (2 examples with oxidation); two examples with ninth plate daguerreotypes (tarnishing, fading, oxidation), and one with a ninth plate ambrotype (loss of emulsion). The frames feature foliate and floral motifs. Includes a daguerreotype of a man wearing a tall hat, a daguerreotype of an infant, and a hand-tinted ambrotype of a woman.
[With:] Cast metal ninth plate frame. N.p., n.d. 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. (some oxidation, some loss to varnish); with ninth plate tintype with brass frame (bends to plate, light surface scratches). -- 2 oval cast iron frames. N.p., n.d. 5 x 5 1/2 in. (minor oxidation, scratches). -- 2 grape-motif parcel-gilt cast iron frames. N.p., n.d. 4 7/8 x 5 3/8 in. (one with early loss, some loss to gilding).
