Original leaf from the first edition of Palou's Relacion historica de la vida y apostolicas tareas del Venerable Padre Fray Junipero Serra (1787) tipped in; facsimile title-page of Palou's work, text printed in red and black. Original cream paper-covered stiff card boards, red paper lettering-piece on upper cover. Provenance: Arthur R. Goldsmith, JR. (bookplate).

LIMITED EDITION, one of 177 unnumbered copies, presented by the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco during their visit to the Zamorano Club of Los Angeles. According to Magee, Palou's Life of Father Serra was the first literary work written in San Francisco, and thus Palou was the city's first author. GB 598.
