Lot Description

Collection of Margot Fonteyn Items: A Pair of Pointe Shoes, Two Head Pieces, Two Photographic Prints, 1960s 


This lot includes five items; a pair of ballet pointe shoes, two head pieces, and two photographic prints. All items were worn by or are connected to Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991).
Dame Margaret Evelyn de Arias DBE (née Margaret Hookham, known by her stage name Margot Fonteyn) was an English ballerina, whose illustrious career spanned more than six decades. Fonteyn particularly shone in pas de deux, her most enduring and famed partnership with Rudolf Nureyev. She was appointed prima ballerina assoluta of the Royal Ballet by Queen Elizabeth II, and remained active until her death.

Both headpieces were worn for the 1962 production of Le Corsaire.
