Two Japanese Gilt Decorated Black Lacquer Document Boxes, Ryoshibako
19TH CENTURY
each of standard rectangular form, the first the cover decorated with a ho-ho bird perched on leafy tree issuing from rockwork, the sides with blossoming chrysanthemums, having a tray, the reverse of the cover and the interior decorated with nashiji ground; the second decorated with gilt floral roundels against a diaper ground, the reverse of the cover decorated with horses, the interior decorated with nashiji ground, together with two trays and a smaller covered box.
