Lot Description

[CHINESE ART]
GARNER, Harry M. and MEDLEY, Margaret. Chinese Art in Three-Dimensional Color. Portland, Oregon: The Gruber Foundation, 1969.

4 volumes, 278 x 215 mm. Text with descriptions corresponding to 180 stereo reels each with six color slides for stereoscopic viewing using a ViewMaster, of which one is included. Original green cloth, with gilt spines and original slipcases.

A RARE COMPLETE set printed by the Gruber Foundation and William Gruber, an organ maker who was one of the original inventors of the ViewMaster, who was also passionate about Chinese art. The run was originally intended to include 1000 copies, as is printed in the title pages, but, unfortunately the project was abandoned after his death and only 300 copies were completed.
