約1845年 中國風鋼版畫十張：宮殿與神廟

艾隆是維多利亞時代著名的建築師。在今天，他的插畫遠比建築有名。自18世紀末馬戛爾尼使團訪華，帶回乾隆帝賞賜的大批回禮，“中國風”在大不列顛刮起旋風。艾隆游遍大英與中亞，對華夏心向往之，卻不曾有機會涉足，所以根據前任的筆記游記，創作了許多心目中的滿清社會場景。在這些版畫中，有城鎮市集、深宮寺廟；有江南山水、藏蒙風土；有嬉鬧小兒、有深閨貴婦。可以説市井百態羅列風俗。但是細察之下，難掩歐陸風格——雕梁畫棟俱是洋式，官紳香客高鼻深目，織綉羅衫襯蕾絲花邊。這種臆想帶來的裝飾手法是如此天真，以一種赤誠的可愛，令人莞爾。
